Using Blocks in the Classroom for Early Childhood Providers
Blocks are universal play materials, they are found in preschool classrooms around the globe. There is a great deal of research documenting the benefits of playing with blocks; consistently showing that block play supports the development of mathematical thinking, social skills, abstract thinking, creativity, and most recently literacy. However, despite this evidence, block play remains largely a limited “choice” activity. This session will explore what is learned when children play in the block area, what should or might be included and the 10 things NAEYC says that children learn from block play.
