KCPT Presents: Independent Lens Documentary The Bad Kids

A Workshop With Judi Simmons Estes, Ph.D, Park University

Are you an education professional who works with students at risk of dropping out of high school? KCPT wants to arm you with the resources to help get them to graduation.

During this free workshop, you’ll explore the Independent Lens Documentary The Bad Kids and learn about California’s Black Rock Continuation High School, an alternative school for at-risk students, and how the mission is to help those students realize their potential. Located in an impoverished community in the Mohave Desert, Black Rock’s foundation is based upon empathy, commitment, positive reinforcement, integrity and self-care. Teachers at Black Rock maintain a high level of personal and emotional involvement by supporting one another in many capacities. Learn how you can incorporate these same principles into your everyday work with students.

You’ll receive The Bad Kids Educator Toolkit adaptable to both school-based student learning and district-wide professional development opportunities whose focus is strengthening and supporting at-risk students.

Seating is limited. A light dinner will be provided.

Dr. Estes has a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in education and a Master’s degree in Psychology: Mental Health Services as well as a Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology.
