Communicating Across Differences: Exploring Multiple Identities @ KCPT
Jun 19 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Communicating Across Differences: Exploring Multiple Identities @ KCPT | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

Engaging in dialogue with those who are different than us is becoming more and more common and in a world where language continues to evolve, navigating the social landscape is becoming more challenging. Participants will engage in an identity mapping exercise designed to explore the different ways our socialization leads us to view the world and influences how we interact with those similar and different from us. Understanding how we think about and discuss our identities and how our unconscious biases manifest is the first step towards mindfulness and self-awareness.

Help, Hope and Healing: How to Help Young Children Heal From Traumatic Events @ KCPT Public Television | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

One in four children in the United States will experience an event that may cause physical, emotional or psychological distress and may threaten their safety, health and happiness in big and lasting ways. But with the latest research, the power of healing relationships (and a little help from Big Bird), these experiences do not have to define a child’s life. This session will provide an overview about trauma and how it impacts the developing young child. We will explore how it impacts the developing young child. We will explore how the Street in Communities resources can help adults navigate this difficult period in a child’s life and promote hope and healing.
