Indie Lens Pop-Up | Wrestle @ Plaza Branch - Kansas City Public Library
May 4 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Indie Lens Pop-Up | Wrestle @ Plaza Branch - Kansas City Public Library | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

For 15 weeks, from the start of their season to the 2016 Alabama state tournament, the wrestlers at Huntsville’s J.O. Johnson High School endured both the demands of their sport and the trials of life in a school and area where the odds were stacked against them. For a fortunate few, a college scholarship could offer a way out.

Filmmakers Suzannah Herbert and Lauren Belfer offer an intimate, empathetic look into their experiences and challenges in the 2018 documentary Wrestle. It focuses on four wrestlers at J.O. Johnson – located in one of the city’s poorest areas and a fixture on the state’s list of failing schools – and their coach.

Join KCPT and the Kansas City Public Library for a free screening of the film followed by a discussion. RSVP here.

Bridging The Generational Gap in Early Education Programs @ KCPT
May 9 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Bridging The Generational Gap in Early Education Programs @ KCPT | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

We all know and expect that each child will be a unique individual and we design our classrooms and our teaching to support and embrace all children. Yet, when it comes to adults, one of the hardest things is to know ourselves well; The next hardest thing is to work with those who are different from us… And we are ALL different! This session will look at some of the generational differences among workers. For the first time in American history there are three generations in our workforce, born in different eras and working together in an ever-changing workplace. How can we learn from one another and create workplaces of learning and collaboration? How is a leader to manage all of these different expectations?

Leanne Hilligas, Early Care and Education Training Coordinator, Nancy Heathman, Early Care and Education Specialist – The Family Conservancy

Participants will earn 2 clock hours for either Missouri or Kansas.

A light dinner will be provided.  Doors open at 6:00 PM
