An Evening With 2Cellos @ Sprint Center | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

Join KCPT for an evening with 2Cellos, music’s most electric and dynamic instrumental duo, live in concert! The Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser have forged a signature style that breaks down the boundaries between genres of music, from classical and film music to pop and rock, and know no limits when it comes to performing live. 2Cellos became an international sensation since their unique video version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” rocked YouTube with millions of hits in 2011, and continue to be as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi.

For their U.S. concert tour, 2Cellos will bring their game-changing sound and style to the most popular melodies ever written for classic and contemporary movies and television from their latest album, Score (2017). Themes include: Oscar-winning themes from James Horner’s score for Titanic (“My Heart Will Go On”), John Williams’ score for Schindler’s List, “May It Be” from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer song “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Nino Rota’s love theme for The Godfather, Hans Zimmer’s theme from Rain Man, and Ramin Djawadi’s melodies that score Game of Thrones — watch the video here.

Evicted in Kansas City @ Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch
Jan 24 @ 6:00 pm
Evicted in Kansas City @ Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch | Kansas City | Missouri | United States

From 1999 to 2016, records show, Jackson County logged nearly 174,000 evictions – an average of about 42 per business day. Alarmingly, the leading predictor was race. Analysis by activist Tara Raghuveer revealed a disproportionate impact on African-Americans.

The findings parallel those of sociologist Matthew Desmond, who embedded himself in two poor neighborhoods in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. Raghuveer’s research, conducted under his guidance, was cited in the book.

Raghuveer, a native Kansas Citian and graduate of Harvard College, presents her findings and then joins a panel discussion of the issues surrounding eviction in the Kansas City area. KCPT-Kansas City PBS’ Nick Haines moderates the town hall event, which will be recorded by KCPT for later broadcast.

Co-presented by the Black Community Fund and The Kansas City Public Library. RSVP for this event at the library’s website.
